The tanka is a Japanese form that captures a moment in five lines with a specific syllable count: 5-7-5-7-7. Each of the following is a separate moment special to me and my wife.

When you first entered
The class we both signed up for
I knew right away
That this was fate, we were meant
To spend our lives together.

Playing mini-golf
On our Most Romantic Date
We tied – nine to nine!
Who owed whom the nine kisses?
Maybe we should share 18?

The air was so cold
The night we stood before them
Friends and family
Shivered in their rented chairs
As we repeated our vows

Standing with the judge
Holding hands with our children
The camera flashed –
And our family of four
Was official. Adoption!
