Poem A Day: Brussel Sprouts

You’re actually quite lovely

In your own quite special way.

I can see why parents choose you

And place you proudly on our plate.

You’re almost round, and bite-sized

(The perfect food for a snack).

A fairly succulent shade of green –

Who would complain about that?

The truth is, for a vegetable,

You look like lots of fun,

But every time I’m forced to eat you,

I throw up every one.

I’ve closed my eyes and held my nose,

But nothing does the trick.

How can something so pretty

Make me so physically sick?
